Akkie (Agnes) (Nettinga) Woudsma
Our Father in Heaven called home our beloved wife, mother, and beppe on Friday November 4, 2022 at the age of 91. Loving wife for 66 years of Klaas (Clarence) Woudsma, mother of Judy (Ed) Muzzin, Esther Tilley, Wilma (Peter) Cohrs, Diane (Ron) Pautler, Clarence (Carole Ann) Woudsma; Beppe to Nina (Drew), Jacob (Courtney), Julia (Trevor); Reagan (Kyle), David (dec. 2010), Evan (Kristin); Harrison and Elliot; Lucas, Avary and Celia; Orebeppe to Noemi Maizie and Stevie; Luna and Willow; Oaklen; Piper, Fergus, Sloane, and Mac; Decklan and Wren. Akkie was one of seven siblings and is survived by brothers Sid Nettinga (Alice) and Lolke Nettinga (Adrie), and sister-in-law Hilda Nettinga and many extended family members in Canada and the Netherlands. Akkie was born November 19th, 1930 in Stroobos, Friesland the Netherlands and emigrated to Canada in 1954 with a girlfriend and worked as a domestic labourer. She met her future husband on a blind date at the church choir and they were married in 1956. They began their life together in Oshawa and moved to Woodstock in 1969 where in addition to raising their 5 children, Akkie worked as a secretary for Forano in Hickson. A devout Christian and member of the Covenant Christian Reformed Church, Akkie exemplified what it really meant to be part of a community. She volunteered countless hours as Secretary of the John Knox Christian School Board, added her beautiful alto voice to church choirs, and broke new ground as the first female Deacon in her church. Well into her 80s, she still knitted slippers for her great grand children at Christmas, one of her many crafting and sewing skills developed through the necessities of humble beginnings and immigrant life in her beloved Canada. As so many have experienced, Akkie lived her last years with the increasingly debilitating effects of dementia, with Klaas caring for her by her side, in the home they lovingly shared. Dementia led to a sad final act for a life so full and well lived, yet the sadness is tempered by her unshakeable faith that her eternal resting place is with the Lord in heaven. Greatest thanks to all the staff at Caressant Care in Woodstock. Akkie asked that any donations in her memory be made to the Woodstock Christian School, and these can be arranged through Brock and Visser Funeral Home in Woodstock. Visitation will be held on Thursday, Nov.10, 2022 from 12:30-2 p.m. at the Covenant Christian Reformed Church (410 Landsdowne Ave. Woodstock ON ). The Funeral Service will take place at 2:00 pm at Covenant, with light refreshments to follow. A private interment has taken place previously at Hillview Cemetery in Woodstock.
