Barbara Jean Wilson-Bird

Nov 7, 1945 – Nov 23, 2025

Barbie passed away peacefully after a brief illness at Caressant Care Nursing Home in Woodstock, two weeks after her 80th birthday.

Born in London, Ontario, she was the only child of George Stirling “Kelly” Wilson (Feb 2001), and Bessie Ann Murray (Nov, 1992).

Growing up she was surrounded by many aunts, uncles, cousins, horses and cats. She played the piano, sang beautifully, and performed her first solo at the age of 6. She competed in the Oxford Music Festival many times. Her singing for weddings, funerals, and the choir was enjoyed by many at her beloved Chalmers Church.

Continuing her love and enthusiasm for singing, she was one of the original members of the Woodstock Choralaires, started by Dr. N. Burt-Gerrans in 1965. She was the secretary for them, and also president of the Woodstock Women’s Music Club, making life long friends. Her travels with the Choralaires took her to Europe several times.

She was employed by Woodstock General Hospital as a medical secretary for many years, until moving to Las Vegas in 1987. She married Dale J. Bird that year. He predeceased her Dec 29, 1999.

Returning to her childhood home in 2005, She has resided at Caressant Care since April 2015. She is survived by several cousins in Woodstock, London and Michigan, who faithfully kept in touch with her.

Barbie was very independent, funny, outspoken, stubborn and caring. Her love for the Blue Jays was well known. Many friends shall miss her phone calls, and wonderful colourful home-made cards, celebrating any special occasion.

Thank you so much for the loving, supportive (and patient!) staff at Caressant Care, including Gail and Nancy. I’m sure they already miss her “spicy” nature. Special thanks to Agatha

Life long neighbours and friend Gwen Losee (Hugh) will miss her daily 8:30 pm phone calls.

Cremation has taken place. Interment will be with her parents in the Woodstock Anglican Cemetery. Brock and Visser Funeral Home are in charge of arrangements.
