With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our cherished father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Bertalan Olah, on March 11, 2026.

He will be deeply missed by his beloved wife, Katalin Olah (Palinkas). Loving father of Bert (Patty) and Nancy (Mark), and proud grandfather of Evan (Peyten), Eric, Ethan (Hannah), Ashlyn (Peter), and Owen. Bertalan was also a devoted great-grandfather to Oliver and Ozzy Olah, who brought him great joy. He is survived by his brother Barna (Margaret) and sister Gizella (Berci), and will be fondly remembered by his many nieces and nephews overseas.

Bertalan was predeceased by his brother Gyozo and his dear friend Gus Simon.

Born in Pap, Hungary in 1938, Bertalan came to Canada in 1957 with his brother Barna and his close friend Gus, beginning a new chapter and building a life here. Bert loved sports of all kinds and especially enjoyed sharing a beer, stories, and plenty of laughs with family and friends.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the Hope Street Unit at PeopleCare LTC in Tavistock for the exceptional care and kindness they showed to Papa during his time there.

Visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m. at the Brock and Visser Funeral Home, 845 Devonshire Ave., Woodstock, on Thursday, March 19, 2026. A funeral service will follow in the chapel at 11:00 a.m. A reception will take place afterward, where family and friends are invited to share fond memories of Bertalan.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Bertalan’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Oxford.
