With deep love and gratitude, we remember the life of a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend, who passed away peacefully in Ingersoll, Ontario on December 23rd, 2025 at the age of 92.
Born in Shawbridge, Quebec, Chuck was the beloved son of the late Gladys and Frank Dalton. He was raised in Richmond Hill and London, Ontario, before settling in Thamesford, where he and his wife Ethel built a life rooted in family, community, and quiet faithfulness. He was predeceased by his siblings Doris, Leslie, and George, and by his dearly loved wife Ethel, whom he missed profoundly during his more than one year as a widower.
A deeply loyal and dedicated family man, he was a loving husband and a supportive, intensely devoted father and father-in-law to his four children and their partners – Wayne, Wendy (Tom), Tracey (Bill) and Charlene (Rick), whom he loved deeply. He was a proud and loving grandfather known affectionately as Grandpa or Poppa to Erin (Chris), Hillary (CJ), Taylor, Erika and Austin as well as a cherished great-grandfather of Logan, Ella, Wallace and Audrey. He found great joy in time spent with ‘The Dalton Gang’.
A sports enthusiast through and through, he had a lifelong love of hockey and baseball primarily but was entertained by curling and basketball as well. His passion for sport extended naturally into his work and volunteer life. He served the Township of Zorra (Thamesford) faithfully for 25 years as a Facility Manager before retiring, leaving a legacy of dedication, integrity, and trustworthiness. He was also a long-standing and active member of the Thamesford Lions Club for more than 45 years and belonged to the Arena Managers Alumni, reflecting his deep commitment to service and community life.
Known as a consummate host, he made people feel welcome wherever he was — at home, at the trailer, in the community, or at the arena. Hospitality came naturally to him, especially in the kitchen. He loved to cook, particularly breakfast, proudly serving what he called his “Breakfast of Champions.”
He had a terrific sense of humour, a quiet wit, and a genuine interest in world news and current events. He was faithful, trustworthy, and blessed with many friends and acquaintances whose lives were made richer by knowing him. His life was one of consistency, generosity, and quiet strength.
He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him — a man whose legacy lives on in his family, his community, and the many lives he touched simply by being himself.
Donations in honour of a life well lived would be appreciated to either the Thamesford Lion’s Club or Westminster United Church, Thamesford.
A gathering of loved ones to celebrate Chuck’s life will take place at a date yet to be determined.
