GROEN, Cheryl Ann (nee Southgate)
Cheryl Ann Groen, affectionately known as Cher, passed away on August 12, 2025, at the Woodstock Hospital, Cheryl was 72. Cheryl’s life was a tapestry woven with joy, warmth, and a notable love for those around her. Her vibrant personality shone brightly through her social nature, making her the life of every gathering. Cheryl was not only a fun-loving individual but also a great cook, often delighting friends and family with her culinary talents. Cheryl found immense happiness in the company of her loved ones. She shared 25 wonderful years of marriage with her husband, Norm, who was a pillar of support and companionship throughout their journey together. Cheryl’s family was her pride and joy; she is survived by her daughter, Leslie (Doug) Nekoda, her step-daughter, Nicole Groen (Jacob and Madilynn) and stepson Anthony Groen. Cheryl is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins who loved her dearly. Cheryl’s bond with her siblings was equally special, as she is remembered fondly by her sisters Patsy Rekker, Kelly (Gary) Kozuch and Lisa Nicholls (Scott Cooper). She cultivated deep friendships that enriched her life, with best friends Robin Armstrong and Leslie Rudy standing by her side through the years. Cheryl’s love for adventure was evident in her passion for outings with her husband and friends, creating memories that they would cherish forever. The joy she brought into the lives of those around her reminds us all of the importance of love, laughter, and lasting connections. Cheryl was predeceased by her parents, Margaret and Walter, but her spirit lives on in the hearts of her family and friends. While her presence will be deeply missed, the joyful memories she created will be cherished eternally.
The family will receive friends for visitation at the Brock and Visser Funeral Home, 845 Devonshire Ave, Woodstock, 519-539-0004, on Monday, August 18, 2025 from 2 pm until the time of the Memorial Service at 4 pm in the Funeral Home Chapel. If desired, in lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Cheryl can be made to Oxford County Animal Rescue or to your charity of choice.
