"Absent from the body, present with the Lord." (2 Cor 5:8). This scripture captures Ed's faith and the comfort he found in the promise of eternal life.
Ed went to be present with his Lord on Friday, March 29, 2024. He is lovingly remembered by his wife of 64 years, Doreen née Fligg and "his 4 girls", as he used to say; Brenda Menard, Karen (Brett) Schultz, Deborah (Mike) Lazarakos, and Shelley (Ron) Ypma.
Grandpa to Chris, Holly (James), Michelle, Dave, Kira (AJ), Marina (Jason), Veronica, Keeghan, Owen, Yme, and Siebren. Great-Grandpa to Nik, Zeke, Desiree, Zoey, Izzy, Jak, Ciara, Ezrah, Zane, Zaya, Klara, Daphney, Elena, and Aquila.
Brother to Edgar (Carolyn) McReynolds, Olive (Rodney) Palmer, Marilyn (Keith) Taylor and remembered by many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his brother Mervyn "Rolly" McReynolds and granddaughter Valery Ypma.
Ed was passionate about missions and remained active in the Alliance Church throughout most of his life. At Ivan J.H. Carmichael Ltd, he was known for his strong work ethic throughout his career as a John Deere farm implements mechanic. In his early years, he was part of the construction crew on the Newfoundland extension of the Trans Canada Highway.
Not only did Ed serve his church, but he also played an active role in his local community. He was a member of, and maintained a section of the Sydenham Bruce Trail. His kindness was further expressed through his volunteer work as a driver for the cancer society - he felt privileged to take his little brother for cancer treatment.
In his last years, Ed loved riding the Woodstock transit system to continue his independence.
His favourite treats included pie, ice cream, and chocolate.
Ed lived a life marked by faith, family, and a dedication to service.
