George Duncan, a cherished husband, beloved Dad and Grandpa and friend of so many, passed away peacefully on September 27, 2024 at the age of 81. Born on December 27, 1942, George's journey began in Glasgow, Scotland, but he and Eleanor with their 2 young children, found their home in far-away Northern Ontario, Canada to where they emigrated in February, 1970. After completing his PhD in analytical chemistry at Salford University in Manchester, England, he began a teaching career at Northern College, Kirkland Lake. After 11 years of teaching, George took a 6 month sabbatical in California. He returned to Northern Ontario to become Pastor of a little church known as Crossroads Church Englehart, Ontario. He led his congregation with love and wisdom for nearly 20 years. During this time, he also entered the business world, opening Accurassay Labs, then A&A Environmental which continues on in Woodstock, Ontario.
Family had a special place in George's heart. He is lovingly remembered by his wife Eleanor; children Catherine (Ken), Rob (Jennifer), and Susan (Jeff) and his wonderful grandchildren, Abbie, Gillian (Mark), Callum, Ceilidh, Emma and Graham. In addition to the joy of time with family, he enjoyed playing the bagpipes in the Ingersoll Pipe Band, wood-working, flying his drone over the family cottage, leading Bible Studies and sitting with his fishing rod on the beaches of Amelia Island during the winter.
George was known to those who knew him as generous, loving and passionate. He had a profound understanding of Scripture which allowed him to bring words of peace to any troubled situation. If you spent any time with him, you knew that he knew his loving Saviour well. He leaves a legacy of God-given wisdom, deep love and abiding peace.
