Gloria Georgina Getty
A beacon of love and light, departed this world on July 10, 2025, in Woodstock, Ontario,
leaving behind a legacy of grace, beauty, and resilience. Born on October 26, 1964, in
Kitchener, Ontario, Gloria dedicated her life to nurturing her family, friends,
and their shared passions.
As a loving wife to Joseph, she cultivated a vibrant life filled with shared dreams and
projects. Their 28-year labour of love—a flourishing flower garden at their nineteenth
century home—stands as a testament to their bond and the beauty they created together.
Gloria worked actively as a teacher of English with the Thames Valley District School Board
from 1995 to 2004, passionately shaping young minds and inspiring her students with her
love of literature and the written word. Her eclectic interests reflected her dynamic spirit, and
she lived her life deeply, ensuring that everything she did added beauty and meaning
to the world.
A loving mother to Harper, Gloria poured her heart into her daughter, instilling her with a
love for animals, nature, and a sense of purpose. Sisters Laura and Valerie stood by her side
as confidantes and supporters throughout her life. The bond among family members
extended into her heartfelt relationships with her brother-in-law Frank (Nathalie), her sister-
in-law Kristine (Michael), her step-mother-in-law Jean, her cherished nephews Drew
(Stephanie) and Scott, and her nieces Victoria (Tristan) and Rachel (Taylon). Gloria had an
affectionate connection with her extended family, her great-niece Veronica, and wishing to
meet her great-nephew Nicholas.
Gloria's passion for travel enriched her life experiences, and through her adventures,
connected to the greater world with open arms. She found joy not only in her family but also
in her many special friends, with whom she shared intellectual curiosity, plenty of laughter
and many cherished memories. Her current beloved pets, Rosie the border collie and Dinky
the cat, added a special spark of love to her most recent and difficult days.
Gloria’s Memorial Visitation will be held on Friday, July 18, 2024, from 4:00 PM to 8:00
PM in Glo’s Garden at 71 Delatre St, Woodstock, ON. A Memorial Service will take place
on Saturday, July 19, 2025, at 11:00 AM at the Brock & Visser Funeral Home, 845
Devonshire Ave., Woodstock, ON (519-539-0004). Her interment will follow at 3:00 PM at
the Bridgeport Cemetery Memorial Cemetery, Kitchener, ON. Those wishing to attend the
interment are welcome to join us.
Though Gloria's journey has ended here, the impact she made upon those who had the
privilege to know her will live on in their hearts for all time. She embodied the essence of
love, grace, the power of the written word, and a rapier wit, reminding those who mourn her
that every moment shared is a treasure to be cherished.
For those who wish, memorial contributions in Gloria's honour to Verspeeten Cancer,
Canadian Cancer Society, DASO - Domestic Abuse Services of Oxford or Sakura House
would be appreciated by the family.
