Grace (Geesje) Slager
With thankful hearts for a life well lived, we announce the passing of Grace (Geesje) Slager, who passed away unexpectedly but peacefully on July 4, 2026, in her 89th year, surrounded by the love of her family.
Born in Friesland, The Netherlands, to Hendrik and Pietje Dykstra, Grace immigrated to Canada with her family in 1953. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Hille Slager (2020), her sisters Alice Schut and Sandra Smit, and is lovingly remembered by her brothers, Clarence Dykstra and John (Catherine) Dykstra.
Grace and Hille shared a life rooted in faith and family. Together they raised seven children: Patty (Karl) Reyneveld, Peter (Diana) Slager, Harry (Tammy) Slager, Marlene (Mike) Bloxsidge, Don (Kim) Slager, Hilda McDonald, and Lori (Rob) Wubs.
She was a proud grandmother of 21 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. She will be missed and also fondly remembered by her siblings-in-law. Family was the centre of her life, and she treasured every opportunity to gather with those she loved.
Grace will be remembered for her quiet strength, caring heart, steadfast faith and gentle spirit. Above all, she will be dearly missed for her infectious smile, which brought warmth and comfort to everyone she met. Her legacy of love, kindness, and devotion will continue to live on in all who knew her.
Though her passing leaves a deep void, her family takes comfort in the promises of eternal life and the assurance that she is at peace with her Lord and Saviour.
“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” 2 Timothy 4:7
