Harold Herbert Oldford “Herb”

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Harold Herbert Oldford, affectionately known as “Herb,” who peacefully departed this life on June 12, 2025, in Woodstock, Ontario, with his beloved wife of 58 years, Wanda Oldford, by his side. Herb was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, and friend, whose presence will be profoundly missed by all who knew him.

Born on March 5, 1946, Herb spent his early years in Glasgow, Nova Scotia, before moving to Ontario at the age of 17, where he eventually settled in Woodstock and built his life and career. Herb had a distinguished career in non-destructive testing, operating his own consulting firm until his retirement in 2015.

Herb's family was his greatest joy. He is survived by his children, Tammy Lawrence (David Sloane) and Vince Oldford, as well as his beloved grandson, Adam Lawrence LeBel (Skylar), and his two grandchildren, Quinn and Finnley. He is also survived by his siblings Fred Myers (Audrey), Sam Meyers (Toni), John Myers (Brenda), his brother-in-law Gary Dennis, and Philip Seymour, along with many cherished nieces and nephews. Herb’s family back home in Nova Scotia will hold his memory close to their hearts.

He was predeceased by his mother, Violet Myers, his stepfather, William Myers, his sister Debbie Stefan (Louis), his sister Pauline Seymour, and his brothers Tommy Oldford, Jimmy Oldford, and Kenneth Myers (Brenda). He was also preceded in death by his grandmother, Margaret Oldford, and many other brothers and sisters-in-law, including John Barnum (Terry), Alice LeBlanc (Joe), Peter Barnum, and Isabel Dennis.

Herb will fondly be remembered for his sense of humour, his knack for embellishing stories, especially his fishing tales, and his endless supply of silly dad jokes. He had a deep passion for sports, particularly baseball, having spent a decade coaching youth baseball and hockey. One of his proudest achievements was winning the Ontario Provincial Baseball Championship with the Hickson Pee-wee Boys team in the early 1980s. Herb also had the honour of project manager in the making of the Canada Cup while working at Alloy Castings in New Hamburg, where he had the opportunity to meet Alan Eagleson.

Herb enjoyed the simple pleasures in life, from watching "The Price is Right" with his brother Billy (Fred) during their cherished weekly visits, to enjoying daily trips to Uncle Gary’s with his best buddy, Billy (the dog) by his side and his weekly poker games with friends.

In accordance with his wishes, Herb will be cremated. A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, at Gary Dennis's residence, located at 474364 Dodge Line, Sweaburg, Ontario, at 2 PM. Friends and family are invited to gather for food, refreshments, and to share stories of the incredible man we all knew and loved.
