It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Howard Atkinson, who departed this life on January 12, 2026, at Von Sakura House, in his 88th year. Born on October 15, 1938, Howard lived a full and passionate life, marked by his devotion to family and his love for the great outdoors.
Howard was a dedicated partner to Linda Swance, who cherished the many moments they shared. A loving father, he is survived by his son Brian Atkinson (Sandra) of London, daughter Della Charron (Dan) of Woodstock, and son Barry Atkinson of Tillsonburg. Howard also took great pride in his role as a grandfather, along with being a supportive uncle to his nieces and nephews, instilling in them the values of hard work and dedication.
Throughout his life, Howard found joy in the simple pleasures of hunting and fishing. These activities not only brought him closer to nature but also provided cherished opportunities to bond with family and friends. He also thoroughly enjoyed woodworking and spending time at his boathouse in Port Rowan, where he could tinker, build, and take pride in his surroundings.
A continuous fixer, Dad always found something to do or created something to do. Whether repairing, building, or improving, he was happiest when his hands were busy. His love for the outdoors and his practical skills were evident in the stories he shared and the projects he completed, creating lasting memories for those around him.
Dad lived by a simple motto: “If you see something that needs to be done, get it done.” He carried this philosophy through every aspect of his life, leaving behind not only things he built and fixed, but a lasting example for all of us.
Howard was predeceased by his beloved wife, Eva Atkinson (nee Pembleton), who passed away in 2013, and his son Dale Atkinson, who left us in 2024. Their memories remain etched in the hearts of all who knew them, and their legacy continues through Howard's family.
The Atkinson family invites all who knew Howard to celebrate his extraordinary life at the Unifor Hall, 126 Beale St., Woodstock, on Saturday, May 9, 2026, from 1 to 4 pm.
He will be remembered fondly for his kindness, humor, and unwavering love for those dear to him. Howard's spirit lives on in the lives he touched and the memories shared with his family and friends.
