February 12, 1940 – May 12, 2026
Howard William Worte, born on February 12, 1940, in Nissouri Township, Ontario, peacefully passed away on May 12, 2026, at St. Mary's Hospital in St. Mary's, Ontario. A devoted farmer and a pillar of his community, Howard’s life was marked by a profound connection to the land and those around him.
Howard was a farmer through and through. His dedication to caring for his cows and tending to his gardens was not merely a vocation but a vibrant expression of his love for nature and rural life. A valued member of the Ayrshire Club and the Oxford Woodlot Club, he was also renowned locally as a big maple syrup producer—a title that spoke to his craftsmanship and commitment to preserving traditional practices.
Born to George and Blanche Worte, Howard grew up in a family that nurtured strong bonds and a deep work ethic. He is predeceased by his wife, Eunice Worte (Harkes) in 2020, whom he married in 1968. Together, they shared many years filled with love and partnership. Their children—Lynn Worte (Stephen Smith) of Uniondale, David Worte (Wendy) of Lakeside, and Donna Smith (Karl) of Thorndale—carry forward his legacy. Howard’s life's joy was enriched further by his grandchildren Ryan Worte (Kady Billings), Raechel Boertien (Jared Boertien), Kaitlin Smith (Joel Curry), Emma Smith (Zach Burns), Mack Smith, Quinn Smith, Jack Smith, and Samuel Smith, and his great-grandchild Hailey Billings-Worte, who continue to be a testament to his enduring spirit.
Howard also leaves behind his siblings Shirley (Harold) Hacon and Sharon Agla, as well as many in-laws including Holly Keizer, Cheryl McCall (George), Cindy Harkes, and Robert Harkes (Luanne). His extended family, including numerous nieces and nephews, remember him with fondness and respect.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Blanche Worte, his siblings Alvin, Linda, and Charles Worte, and his brother-in-laws Richard (Dick) Agla, and Bill Harkes, all of whom remain in his memory and inspire those who loved him.
Howard William Worte’s life was one of dedication, warmth, and steadfast commitment to his family, land, and community. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him and cherished as a man who lived his principles with quiet strength and open heart. His legacy will undoubtedly endure in the fields he tilled, the trees he nurtured, and the hearts of his family.

Heartfelt thanks to the ER and hospital staff at St. Marys Memorial Hospital for the compassionate care they provided to Dad. Being cared for in our small community hospital, surrounded by familiar faces, brought great comfort to our family during this difficult time.
