It is with deep sorrow and fond remembrance that we announce the passing of John Wilson Burt (Jack) Bingham on August 24, 2025, at the age of 85.
Born in Guelph on April 5, 1940, to the late Burt and Ina (Graham) Bingham, Jack was a loving father, devoted grandfather and cherished friend. He leaves behind his children, Bob (Patty) and Jack (Kerry). Fondly remembered by Sally's daughters, Sherry (Sergio), and Tracey (Bruce), as well as his former daughter-in-law Barb. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Sally Bingham and is survived by his former wife Alice Bingham.
Jack was the proud and adoring grandfather, affectionately known as 'Papa Jack', to Sydney, Kelsey, Drew, Carlin, Abbey, Katherine, Ashley and Sarah, and great-grandfather to Serena, Isla and Spencer. He was predeceased by his dear brother, Robert Edgar Bingham, and is survived by his sister-in-law Barbara Bingham, along with their children Steve (Karen) and Joanne (William), as well as many other nieces and nephews who will miss him deeply.
A dedicated entrepreneur, Jack owned and operated the Canadian Tire stores in Woodstock and St. Stephen, NB for nearly 30 years, beginning with the opening of the franchise in 1972. His involvement extended beyond business, as he was an ardent supporter of the Canadian Tire Oldtimer’s Hockey Team, even traveling to Europe with the players and proudly serving as the "original and star 'Water Boy'" at four Olympic venues. Jack’s commitment to his community was also reflected in his 40 years of service as a Rotarian, where he was honoured to receive the Paul Harris Fellow award for his selfless contributions.
For over 20 years, Jack and Sally enjoyed the warmer winters of Titusville, Florida, where they resided at The Great Outdoors. They took numerous RV trips, and formed lasting friendships with their Florida neighbours.
A special thank you to Ray Curry, Jack's best friend and former General Manager, for his endless support and friendship, his daily check-ins and around the clock availability. This meant the world to Jack.
The family also extends their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Vu, Jack’s family physician, for his constant compassion and dedication, as well as the incredible nursing staff at both Woodstock and St. Mary’s hospitals for their exceptional, dignified care during Jack’s final days.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Jack’s memory to Diabetes Canada, the Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Woodstock Hospital Foundation, or a charity of your choice.
Jack will forever be remembered for his generosity, warmth and infectious enthusiasm for life. He will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege to know him.
Visitation will take place on Thursday, August 28, 2025 from 11am-12:45 pm followed by a funeral service held at 1pm at Brock and Visser Funeral Home (845 Devonshire Ave., Woodstock, 519-539-0004).
