James "Jim" Arthur Rylance, a beloved figure and cherished member of his community, passed away peacefully at Woodingford Lodge in Ingersoll, Ontario, on June 22, 2025, surrounded by love, just shy of his 95th birthday. Jim’s life journey began on November 26, 1930, and he was a remarkable testament to resilience, dedication, and the simple joys of life.
Jim's professional journey as a truck driver for International Carriers Ltd. was marked by remarkable achievements, ultimately leading him to own a fleet of six trucks, showcasing his entrepreneurial spirit. His expertise did not stop there; he took on the role of Safety Inspector and shared his wealth of knowledge by teaching the Air Brake Endorsement Course at Fanshawe College, a testament to his commitment to safety and education in the trucking industry.
An avid aviation enthusiast, Jim proudly held a pilot's license and was an active member of the Woodstock Flying Club, allowing him to pursue his passion for flying alongside his day-to-day endeavours. He also had a deep appreciation for nature, finding joy in gardening, feeding the birds, and caring for his beloved cats, which brought happiness to his everyday life.
Jim was married to Velma for 56 wonderful years until her passing in 2008. He later married Marjorie (Bratt), sharing 16 cherished years together until her death in 2025. He leaves behind two daughters, Judy Rylance and Kathy (Lea) Hill, as well as a loving granddaughter, Dayna Hill. Additionally, Jim's family expanded with the addition of his step-sons: John (Debbie) Bratt, Murray Bratt, Brian (Jacquie) Bratt, and David (the late Lois) Bratt. His family legacy is enriched with several step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will carry forward cherished memories of him.
Jim was also supported and loved by his siblings, including Patricia "Pat" Purcell (2011), Sally (David) Allan, and Allan (Deb) Rylance. He will be profoundly missed by his dear friend, Jim Haycock, who shared in many moments of joy and companionship throughout Jim's life as well as many other extended family members and friends.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the caring staff at Woodingford Lodge for their kindness and compassion during Jim’s final days. A gathering to celebrate Jim's life and legacy will occur, culminating with his interment at Oxford Memorial Park Cemetery, on Friday, July 4, 2025 at 11am where he will rest peacefully.
Jim Rylance's life was deeply felt by all who knew him, and his spirit will remain a beacon of love and laughter for his family and friends.
