James Kernaghan Carlisle, known affectionately as Jim to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on December 31, 2023, at the age of 92, in his hometown of Woodstock, Ontario—the same place where his story began on May 10, 1931.
Jim's journey through life was one of commitment and hard work. For 25 years, he was a respected stationary engineer at the Old Hay and Company, and he continued to share his expertise and leadership at the Woodstock Hospital, where he retired as a maintenance supervisor in 1994 after another 25 years of service. His work ethic and integrity were an inspiration to all who knew him.
Beyond his professional life, Jim was deeply involved in his community and various associations. A lifelong member of the College Ave. United Church, Jim served on its board of elders for many years, offering guidance and wisdom. His passion for nurturing the youth was evident in his 14 years as a boy scout leader with the old 5th Woodstock, where he shaped the lives of many young men.
Jim's commitment to service was further exemplified by his active participation in Freemasonry. He was a past master of King Solomon's Lodge No. 43 AF & AM, a member of the Woodstock Lodge of Perfection, and held the prestigious title of Past Most Wise Sovereign of the Centennial Chapter Rose Croix. His dedication to the craft earned him the honor of the 33rd degree in the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite, a testament to his devotion and contributions to the fraternity.
Family was the cornerstone of Jim's life. He was a loving and devoted husband to his late spouse, Joyce, with whom he shared a beautiful life until her passing. A cherished father, he leaves behind his son Stephen and his wife Andrea, and his daughter Joanne and her husband Rob Davis. Jim took immense pride in his role as a grandfather to Alicia, Mike, Sam, and Andrew, and as a great-grandfather to Chloe, Randy, Faith, Shayla, and Jake. His legacy of love and strength will live on through them.
Jim was the last surviving sibling in his family, predeceased by his brothers Sam Jr. and Thomas, and John. The memories and bonds forged with his siblings during their shared lifetimes remain a treasured part of his family's history.
