In Loving Memory of Kaleb Robert Bowden Gopsill
August 27, 2025
It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of our beloved son, brother and friend, Kaleb Robert Bowden Gopsill, following a sudden medical emergency.
Kaleb was a devoted and beloved son to his mom, Christine (Clayton), and dad, Jason (Karen). He was a pillar of strength to his younger sister, Skylar, a caring stepbrother to Riley, Payton, and Erika, and the cherished partner of Neeki. He was deeply loved by his grandparents, Jim and Gloria, as well as by countless aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Kaleb is predeceased by his best friend and big brother Ryan, who inspired Kaleb every day to be loving, kind, funny, and to cherish those he loved, and to have been loved by them both was the most incredible gift to our family.
Kaleb had an extraordinary ability to connect with people from all walks of life, building friendships across the globe through his passions for skateboarding, art, and, later, cycling. His creativity and unique artistic perspective shone brightly for those fortunate enough to see his work. Kaleb touched the lives of everyone he met. It did not matter if they were a complete stranger, within minutes his energy invited you to open up, invite him in, and let him drive your century-old Ford truck (based on a true story). Those fortunate enough to have known Kaleb since childhood will cherish memories of his laughter, incredible trampolining skills, impressive rip-stick technique, and the sparkle underneath an at times mischievous grin.
After a few serious skateboarding wipeouts, Kaleb discovered his new passion: cycling, specifically on a gravel bike. For him, it was more than just a ride; it was freedom, movement, and peace all rolled into one. The wind on his face and the open road before him became his sanctuary, a place of clarity and joy. From family camping as a child to 400km bike rides around the province, Kaleb never lost his love for the outdoors. Fostered by summers "up north" with his Grandparents, it only grew as he did. For him, going backwoods camping was as challenging as it was exciting, he never let camp-stove malfunctions or inclement weather stop him from his adventures. From a young age Kaleb could be found skateboarding the streets of the GTA, frequenting local skate parks where he connected with people of all types, old and young, professional or amateur, it did not matter, he had the ability to make you feel totally confident in yourself. He is immortalized in countless hours of skateboarding "let me try that one more time" videos, pictures with his family he'd say were "annoying" but always posed for anyway, and in all the incredible memories he created for those he loved.
In the days since his passing, countless friends have visited his mom’s home to share memories, offer love, and support the family in every possible way. We are profoundly grateful for every message, every meal, and, above all, the love you have shown. It has been a source of comfort beyond words.
Our family has always lived by a simple motto: “Bye, love you.” No matter the day, no matter the circumstances, even after disagreements, we never leave without saying it. This unwavering expression of love has always been the foundation of our family.
Another phrase that guides us came from Kaleb’s big brother Ryan, who would often say, “Just be a good human.” Kaleb carried these words in his heart, striving always to live by them. We hope everyone who reads this will embrace that same spirit of kindness and compassion.
Family and friends are warmly invited to gather on Thursday, September 4th, at Brock and Visser Funeral Home (845 Devonshire Avenue, Woodstock, Ontario, 519-539-0004) for visitation from 2:00–4:00 p.m. and 6:00–8:00 p.m. In keeping with Kaleb’s wishes, there will be no formal service, and cremation will follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Upper Thames Conservation Authority would be greatly appreciated. If a donation is made and you wish an acknowledgment card to be sent to the family, please contact the funeral home at (519) 539-0004.
