Kryn Van Oostveen, passed away peacefully on the 13th of August, 2024 at 88 years of age.
Born into a family that would grow to cherish his joking nature and strong work ethic, Kryn was predeceased by his beloved wife Willie (nee de Wit). Together, they raised a loving family, including their children Roeland (Mary Anne), Hugh, Bryan (Lisa) Van Oostveen, and Cori (Tony) Law. Kryn's legacy continued to flourish through his grandchildren Adriana (Jay), Vanessa (Dan), Natalie (Ben), Carissa, Rebekah, Ava, Nathan, Aaron, and Hannah, and he was blessed to see the joy of his great-grandchildren Wyatt, Robin, and Gwen.
Kryn's life was marked by the close bonds he shared with his siblings Jan Van Oostveen, Roel (Annie) Van Oostveen, Annie (Pete) Geene, and Willie (Sergio) Ruiter and sister-in-law Sue Ann and brother-in-law Al Devries. He was predeceased by his siblings Kees Van Oostveen, Ida de Gier, Wim Van Oostveen, Corrie Devries, and Wynand Van Oostveen. The de Wit family, with whom he remained very close after Willie’s passing, will greatly feel the absence of his presence. Many memories of life on the farm and family get-togethers will be cherished by numerous extended family members.
For 60 years, since 1964, Kryn dedicated himself to farming on the 29th line west of Embro. His love for the land and the community was evident in his tireless work and the respect he garnered from fellow farmers and associates. Kryn was a long-time dedicated member of the Emmanuel Reformed Church.
Kryn's interests extended beyond the fields he tended. He enjoyed reading, fishing, canoe trips, travelling and gardening, to name a few things, especially in his later years. In his retirement years, Kryn continued to farm as “volunteer labour” and was always a consultant for the farm right until the end. He relished starting conversations with new people, making friends wherever he went, and really hoping to have yet another conversation about farming.
Visitation will take place on Sunday August 18, 2024, from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at Brock and Visser Funeral Home (845 Devonshire Ave. 519-539-0004) Funeral Service will be held at Emmanuel Reformed Church (170 Clarke St. N.) on Monday August 19, 2024 at 11 am.
