Lloyd Everett Young

October 11, 1933 - October 27, 2025

Woodstock, Ontario

Lloyd Young passed away peacefully at Woodstock General Hospital surrounded by his loving family at the incredible age of 92.

His life was filled with immense love and the memories made with him will be a lasting gift to his legacy.

We know he is smiling now that he has reunited in heaven with the love of his life, Doris. He will be dearly missed by his children Rick (Carol) Young, Deb (Duane) Griffith and Dave (Eustacia) Young; his loving grandchildren Kirsten (Mike) and Maddie (Mathew), Ashlee (Nic) and Brent (Hillary), Devon (Meagan) and Darren (Megan), and his adoring great grandchildren Quinn, Nash, Navy and Hudson.

Lloyd was born in Grenville, Quebec to his adoring parents, Wesley Young and Lida Provisal and was third in line of six siblings, Bessie, Stanley, Frank, Joyce, Joan and Barbie who he loved deeply.

At the age of 21 he received an industrial chemistry diploma and was hired by Canada Cement Co. Beginning his career in Montreal his employment journey ventured west to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1956 where he met the love of his life, Doris Shewchuk and asked her to a dance. He quickly was welcomed into the Shewchuk family by future mother and father-in-law, Jennie and Alex and sister-in-law’s, Eve, Marge, Phyllis, Joan and later by brother-in-law’s Ted, Mike and Harold.

They moved to Woodstock, Ontario where they romantically married on Valentines Day, February 14, 1958. Authoring a love story for the ages, they had three children who they raised with care and devotion. They enjoyed dancing, experiencing the world, returning to Quebec and Manitoba to see their families and really loved doing life together. The connection they shared can only be described as the truest of love and it is warmly cherished by those they shared it with.

The house they bought on Braeside Street, later became the Young family’s favourite gathering place. From Lloyd and Doris’ children welcoming their high school sweethearts to years later being blessed with six beautiful grandchildren and four great grandchildren, so many incredible memories were made.

After his retirement from Canada Cement, he passionately became the small business owner of Young’s Golf Repair where Lloyd built lasting relationships with many local golfers and courses. When he wasn’t re-gripping clubs or refinishing clubheads you could find him playing the game that he loved most with many friends and family members.

Lloyd loved sports. He was a devoted hockey and baseball coach for many years, and along with the Blue Jays, was a dedicated fan of the Maple Leafs, Steelers, Rory McIlroy and the local Woodstock Navy Vets. Lloyd and Doris never missed an opportunity to cheer on their children and grandchildren proudly. Whether it was from the sidelines or in the audience, their cheers were always the loudest.

He was a devoted husband, an amazing brother, a gentle and caring father, the world’s most proud grandfather and a warm and loving uncle. His family will remember him for his perfect hugs and kisses and his kind, caring soul.

Lloyd’s legacy lives on in his children and grandchildren and in the countless lives he touched with his spirit, kind smile and love of life. You can honour his memory by hugging your loved ones a little tighter, going for a trail walk and cheering on the Blue Jays in the World Series.

We welcome everyone to a celebration of Lloyd’s incredible life on Sunday November 16, 2025 from 1:00–3:00pm at Craigowan Golf and Country Club.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Woodstock Hospital Foundation in Lloyd’s memory.
