It is with broken hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Matthew Robert Devine on October 1, 2025, at the age of 42.

Matthew was the treasured son of Linda and Larry Devine, beloved father of Axel Devine, loving brother to Breanne (Josh) Geisel and Brittni (Mark) Dustow, and proud uncle of Cora Geisel. He was predeceased by his grandparents, Les and Doreen Andrews, and Bill and Gwen Devine.

Matthew was a homebody who found comfort in quiet spaces. He loved playing video games, where he could escape into new worlds. He had a gift for art, though his doodles and sketches were often kept private; they revealed a creativity that was uniquely his.

Above all else, Matthew’s greatest joy in life was being a father to Axel. His world revolved around his son, and the bond they shared was filled with laughter, play, and love. Whether they were racing RC cars in the driveway, casting lines side by side while fishing, splashing in the pool, or playing video games together, Axel was always at the heart of Matthew’s happiest memories. He was endlessly proud to be Axel’s dad, and his love for him was unconditional and unshakable. That love will live on in Axel’s life forever.

A private family gathering will be held later in his honour. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Heart & Stroke Foundation and Woodstock Hospital Foundation - Mental Health Department.

May he rest peacefully, his love living on through Axel and the memories held close.
