Doreen M. Bateman, affectionately known as Doreen to her friends and family, passed away peacefully on June 14, 2024, at Sakura House, at the age of 89. Born on December 2, 1934, in Stirling, Ontario, she was a beacon of light and love to all who knew her.

Doreen's life was one of dedication and joy, which was most evident in her commitment to her family and her faith. She was the beloved wife of the late Gerald Ervin Bateman, who predeceased her in 2011. Together, they shared a life full of love and laughter, creating a warm home for their children: David Bateman (Liz), Wayne Bateman (Carol), Cheryl Bertrand (Kevin), and the late Larry Bateman (1996)(Margie). Doreen was a pillar of strength and support, not only to her children but also to her cherished grandchildren: Denise Bateman (Manish), Dana Colman (Scott), Devon Bateman (Bob), Matthew and Jessica Bateman, Ryan (Victoria) Bateman, Daniel Bateman (Sarah), Brandon (Deanna), Quinton, and Cory Bertrand. She was also a proud great-grandmother to Max and Tyson Colman, Mena, Shriya Bhatt, and Grayson, and Brynlee Bertrand.

Doreen's legacy continues through her loving family, including her sister Helen Collins, and her many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother-in-law Leon Collins, but the memories they shared will continue to be cherished by those who knew them.

A woman of faith and community, Doreen was an active member of the United Church Women through Knox United Church in Embro. Her commitment to her church was a testament to her unwavering faith and her desire to serve others. Doreen's love for her community extended to her involvement with the Thistle Theatre in Embro, where she enjoyed many productions and the camaraderie of fellow theatre enthusiasts.

Family was the cornerstone of Doreen's life, and she instilled in her children and grandchildren the importance of love, compassion, and kindness. Her home was always a welcoming place, filled with the aroma of home-cooked meals and the sound of laughter. Doreen's wisdom, grace, and humor will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to have been touched by her presence.

As we say farewell to Doreen, we celebrate a life well-lived—a life full of purpose, generosity, and an abundance of love. Her spirit will live on in the hearts of her family and friends, and her influence will continue to be felt through the many lives she touched.

Doreen's family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff at Sakura House for their compassionate care in her final days. Her journey through life was a testament to the strength and beauty of the human spirit, and she will be remembered with fondness and admiration.
