Michael Edward Dermot Connell

February 12, 1940-February 21, 2026.

It is with profound sadness that we share the sudden passing of Michael Connell on February 21st at the Brantford Hospital, surrounded and loved by his daughter Heather, son-in-law Timothy Brown and granddaughters Zoe and Ali. Michael was a beloved husband to Mary Jane (2010), father to Jeffrey, Heather (Timothy Brown) and Peter, and grandfather to Krystal, Eric, Sylvia, Zoe and Ali, great-grandfather to Caden, Jackson, Marrissa and Kaldr. Michael loved the outdoors, sailing, canoeing, biking, the cottage, dogs and more dogs, a good steak, pancakes, peanut butter and jam, a good sense of humour, reading, technology, and any good science fiction book, movie or podcast. He was a lifelong learner, a member of Probus and Grassroots, where he was well-liked by his friends. He worked as a social worker at the ORC in Woodstock, Ontario, for over 30 years, where he met the love of his life, Mary Jane, and enjoyed life with his family in Woodstock and at their cottage in Long Point. From Michael’s daughter: I will remember dancing in the living room as a young girl, banging pots to Neil Diamond, with my dad singing loudly as we enjoyed the music and each other. I will remember the last few years, where we became closer than ever before, and I am so grateful for this time. Peter fondly recalls Dad teaching him how to sail at Long Point. So many memories we shall cherish. A very special thank you goes to Telfer Place, Michael’s home for the past three years, where he was treated with such care and dignity—we so appreciate all of you. As per Michael’s wishes, cremation has taken place, and there will be no visitation or funeral. If you wish to make a donation in his memory, please consider Oxford County Animal Rescue (CHARITY REGISTRATION # 831842232 RR 0001) or the Alzheimer Society, Southwest Partners.
