With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Michael John Schlieman, a cherished partner, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, who departed this world on December 3, 2025, at Woodstock Hospital. Born on October 13, 1955, Michael lived a life marked by unwavering dedication, a generous spirit, and deep connections with those around him.
Mike leaves behind his loving partner, Angela Van Ryswyk, who stood by his side through life’s joys and challenges. He was a devoted father to John (Carly) Schlieman and Julia Schlieman, instilling in them the values of integrity and resilience. As a grandfather, he deeply adored his granddaughter, Violet Schlieman.
He is also lovingly remembered by his sisters, Penny (Terry) Dietrich and Michelle (Uwe) Schlieman, his mother-in-law Mary Van Ryswyk, his brother-in-law Rick (Susan) Ford, and Angela’s brothers Ken (Lori) Van Ryswyk and Steven (Victoria) Van Ryswyk. Numerous nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews were fortunate to be part of Michael’s wide and cherished family circle.
Michael was predeceased by his father, John (Jack) Schlieman (2022), his mother, Audrey Schlieman (2015), and his beloved sister, Susan Ford (2024). He now joins them in eternal rest.
Professionally, Michael was known for his strong work ethic and leadership. He began his career at Kelsey Hayes in Woodstock and later retired from Toyota Motor Manufacturing Woodstock, where he served proudly as Assistant Manager of Maintenance in Weld and Stamping. His dedication and thoughtful guidance left a lasting impact on his colleagues and workplace community.
A man of many passions, Michael found joy in motorcycling, the serenity of camping, and the calm of peaceful fishing trips. He also enjoyed time spent with friends at the Navy Club. Throughout life’s challenges, Michael leaned on the unwavering support of many dear friends, a testament to the deep and lasting relationships he nurtured.
A celebration of Michael’s life will be held on December 20, 2025, at the Woodstock Navy Club, 959 James Street, Woodstock, ON N4S 8X8. Friends and family are invited to gather from 1-4pm as we honour and remember his extraordinary life.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Regis, the Woodstock Hospital Palliative Care Team, and Dr. Breadner, Michael’s oncologist at LHSC, for their compassion and dedicated care.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Sakura House and the Canadian Cancer Society are gratefully appreciated.
