Rick Stewart, passed away peacefully on Monday June 9th, 2025 at Woodstock General Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer in his 78th year.
Rick is survived by his beloved wife Judy of 47 years, loving father to daughter Jennifer Leversage (Matt) who was the light of his life, and very proud Grandpa to Reid, Lane and Nash Leversage that always put the sparkle in his eye. He will be remembered by his sisters-in-law Joanne Morton (Al), Marlene Oliver (John), Karen Murray (Jack) and missed by his nieces and nephews, Andrea Sapardanis (Pete), Rob Oliver (Tara), Lisa DeBoer (Eric), James Walker (Janette), Brittany Walker and many great-nieces and nephews.
Rick is predeceased by his brother Wayne Stewart and parents Shirley (nee Reid) and Alistair Stewart and step-father Alan Leslie.
He retired from the County of Oxford in 2010 after 34 years, and from the Embro Fire Department after 37 years of service. Rick was a longtime resident of Embro, and later of Woodstock. He lived a full life of family, friends and community involvement, especially the Embro Legion (Branch 318) where he was an active member and was awarded a lifetime membership and enjoyed 50 years of service and stood as President for many years.
Family was his greatest joy in life, he was an immensely proud Grandpa to Reid, Lane and Nash - he took great pride in all their accomplishments, offering encouragement and unconditional love. Rick was their biggest supporter and fan where he attended nearly all their games, whether it was hockey, baseball or soccer.
After retirement he enjoyed an occasional game of golf, loved to tinker and fix things around the house (whether they needed fixing or not), enjoyed the companionship and loyalty of his fur friend "Riley" and of course, cheering on the Montreal Canadiens.
The family wishes to thank the doctors, nurses and staff in Units 2200 & 2400 at Woodstock General Hospital for their compassionate care and support in Rick's last days.
In keeping with Rick's wishes, cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held, with a public Celebration of Life to be held at a later date.
In honour of Rick, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family in lieu of flowers.
If you wish to have a card placed with the family recognizing your donation, please contact the funeral home.
