It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ronald James Illes. Ron was a father, brother, uncle, and friend who passed away peacefully on December 22, 2025. Born on September 22, 1955, in Brantford, Ontario, to William (Bill) and Esther Illes (née Haun), Ron was a mechanic, business owner, hard worker, and, most of all, a loving father.
Ron was predeceased by his father, Bill (2001); his mother, Esther (2018); and his brother, Gord (2005). He is survived by his son, Dan Illes (Frances Sarmiento); his daughter, Chantel Illes; his sister, Brenda Schroder (Jeff); his nephew, John Schlieman (Carly); and his niece, Julia Schlieman.
Growing up on the family tobacco farm near Innerkip, Ontario, Ron quickly learned the value of hard work. He went on to become a mechanic and spent most of his career as a transmission mechanic. Ron will always be closely tied to the Mister Transmission brand, as he owned and operated three different locations over the years.
Ron always had an affinity for cars and motorcycles. Later in life, he acquired a number of Harley-Davidsons, his favourite motorcycles. He spent numerous hours over the years working on the various houses he lived in, including a 50-acre farm located in Tavistock.
We would like to extend a special thank you to Forest Heights Long-Term Care Home in Kitchener. Ron was well cared for and became friends with numerous staff members over the years who treated him wonderfully.
A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, January 11, 2026, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Tavistock Legion, 223 Hope St. West, Tavistock, ON. Anyone who knew Ron or his family is welcome to attend for drinks and a bite to eat.
Ron will live on through the friends and family who held him dear, through the lessons he taught us, and the love he shared.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation are gratefully appreciated.
