Obituary

Shirley Maude Wilks (nee Yeoman) peacefully departed this life on April 9, 2026, just short of her 96th birthday. She passed surrounded by love, leaving behind a legacy marked by warmth, resilience, faith, and an unwavering dedication to her family—qualities that were evident to all who knew her.

Shirley took great pleasure in knitting, making preserves, and baking delicious homemade cookies, often sharing these simple joys with those around her. Many fond and cherished memories were created during time spent at the cottage, where laughter and togetherness were always present.

Shirley will be dearly missed, but her legacy of love and devotion to family will continue to motivate and inspire all who were fortunate to be part of her life. Her gentle presence, kind spirit, and beautiful smile will be remembered always.

Shirley’s life was one of deep dedication and enduring love, beginning with her marriage to Bev in 1949 at Christ Church Huntingford. Together, they shared a remarkable life and a loving partnership that spanned 75 years, until Bev’s passing in 2024—a true testament to lasting companionship and mutual respect. Their union blossomed into a close and loving family that includes their children: Lynda (Bill) Rowell, Jim (Debbie) Wilks, Nancy (Pete) Mason, Tricia (Dave) McIntyre, and Susan (Larry) Gillespie. Shirley was a devoted and proud grandmother to 15 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren, each of whom brought her immense joy, pride, and happiness.

Shirley’s faith was the cornerstone of her life, guiding her with quiet strength and grace. She was a devoted member of Old St. Paul’s Anglican Church, where she was an active and valued member of the ACW for many years, forming lasting friendships along the way.

Shirley was the last surviving member of her family, predeceased by her parents, Kenneth and Bertha, and her siblings, Dorothy, Dick, and Ted. She lovingly leaves behind sister-in-law Betty Yeoman, and brother-in-law's Victor Wilks, and Mike Wilks. She will be fondly remembered and dearly missed by her many nieces and nephews, as well as extended family and friends.

The family would like to extend a very heartfelt thank you to the staff of Orchard Lane Neighbourhood at Woodingford Lodge in Woodstock for their compassion, kindness, love, and exceptional care during Shirley’s time with them. Their support and dedication meant so much.

In honour of Shirley’s life, friends are invited to join the family at the Brock and Visser Funeral Home, 845 Devonshire Ave., Woodstock, on Monday, April 13, 2026, from 4–7 p.m. The funeral service will be held at Old St. Paul’s Anglican Church, 723 Dundas St., on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, at 11 am, with a time of fellowship to follow in the parish hall. A private family burial will take place at Christ Church Huntingford Cemetery.

If desired, memorial contributions to Woodstock Woodingford Lodge or Old St. Paul’s Anglican Church would be greatly appreciated as an expression of sympathy.
