Terrance John Brett, affectionately known as Terry, passed away on July 20, 2025, at Owen Sound Hospital, leaving behind a legacy of music, community, and family that will not soon be forgotten. Born on October 8, 1947, in Woodstock, Ontario, Terry was a vibrant figure who embraced life with passion and creativity.
As a devoted father and husband, Terry's life was enriched by his family. He is survived by his beloved wife, Pauline Brett (née Hopkins), with whom he would have celebrated nearly 59 years of marriage next month. Together, they raised two sons, Scott (Stephanie), and Lee (Shannon). Terry was immensely proud of his grandchildren; Keaghan (Julianna), Nolan, Lucas (Kiera), Hannah (Hashi), and Ryleigh. His family was a source of pride and happiness, and his love for them was evident in all he did.
Terry is survived by his siblings Raymond (Joanne) and Sandy, along with many nieces and nephews who will miss his affectionate teasing. He also leaves behind his brother-in-law, Gordon Hopkins. He was predeceased by his parents, Fred and May Brett.
As Woodstock’s original rockstar, Terry was known for playing in the 70s popular band WARPIG. His devotion to music didn’t stop there; he was involved in numerous other bands throughout his lifetime, showcasing his enduring love for art and entertainment. Beyond his musical talents, Terry was the founder of the Woodstock Stallions Soccer Club, and was inducted into the Woodstock Sports Hall of Fame, a testament to his commitment to local sports and community engagement. His love for sports was also shown in his passionate support of West Ham United Football Club.
A proud and spirited member of Beachville, Terry humorously dubbed himself the “Mayor of Beachville-on-Thames,” a title few would challenge, given his deep roots and active involvement in the area. Serving many years with the Beachville Legion as a member of the Colour party and their long-time standing fish and chips chef. He also served as a volunteer firefighter with the Beachville station in Southwest Oxford.
Terry took a keen interest in his community, having also served as a cub scout leader in his earlier days. He indulged in pie-making with his son Lee through their company, On The Thames Pies, reflecting not only his culinary skills but also the bonds he cherished with his family.
Terry was a fixture at the Charles Dickens Pub, where friends gathered to solve the world's problems in the “corner of knowledge.”
A Celebration of Terry’s Life will be held on Saturday, August 9, 2025, from 3 to 9 pm at the Beachville Legion, Branch 495, located at 434570 Zorra Line, Beachville, Ontario.
