Thomas William Smart

Thomas William Smart, a resident of Woodstock Ontario, passed away peacefully on December 23, 2024 at the age of 82. Born on November 17, 1942 in Shawville Quebec. Thomas was a true gentleman, known for his kind, generous and gentle spirit. He lived a life rich in community and personal connections, leaving an indelible mark on everyone he met.

 Thomas was a devoted husband to his beloved wife Leslie Mckenzie-Smart. Thomas completed his degree in Agronomy Science at McGill University. He worked in sales in the Agronomy division for Monsanto for 25 years. In Retirement he and Leslie spent many winters away at the Villages Florida where they formed close friendships and golfed together on many of the lovely courses. He was also the proud father of Steven Smart (Wheatley Ontario) and Melissa Smart (Squamish B.C.)

 In addition to his immediate family, Thomas is survived by his six loving sisters: Margaret Smart, Sheila Kleinikkink (John), Dorothy Cowley(Bob), Edith Nielsen, Christine Smart (Yens), his brother Herbert Smart (Elaine) and many special nieces and nephews. Each sibling holds fond memories of their time together on the family farm, a testament to the strong familial bonds that Thomas cultivated throughout life.

 Thomas was not only committed to his family but also to friends and community. His passions included playing Bridge, where he took great pride helping to organize the Monday Bridge Group at Oxford Gardens. He cherished the friendships he made over the years with his many talented Bridge Partners. When the golf course opened for the season, Tom played as many rounds of golf as he could and also played in the Seniors’ League for many seasons. Every morning, seven days a week, Tom could be found having coffee, a few laughs and “solving the world’s problems” with his close-knit group of friends at Tim Hortons. You could always spot Tom wherever he went sporting one of his fancy brimmed hats.

 Though Thomas has passed, he will forever be remembered for the warmth he brought into lives of those around him. He is preceded in death by his parents Orval and Winnifred Smart and his sister Jean Allan, brother-in-laws, John Allan and Jack Nielsen. His legacy of endless patience, kindness and generosity will continue to resonate through the lives that he touched.

 As per Thomas’ wishes, cremation has taken place and a private internment will be held at a later date in Shawville Quebec. 

 A memorial donation can be made to a charity of one’s choice.
