Obituary

ZOMER, Wilhelmina - “We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.”

2 Corinthians 5:8

Peacefully at Woodingford Lodge, Woodstock, on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, Willy passed away in her 104th year. Beloved wife of Hendrik Zomer, who passed on in 2010. Dear mother of Henry (Grace) Zomer of Port Burwell, Wilma Zomer of Gaspé, QC, JoAnn Zomer of Dundas, Arlene Zomer of Waterloo, and Janet (Dale) Beer of Waterloo. Loved by seven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. Dear sister of Mies Rijnbende. Missed by her many friends. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, as well as by numerous in-laws and extended Zomer and van Leeuwen families in Canada, the Netherlands, and Brazil. Predeceased by her parents Willem and Antje (nee van der Meer) van Leeuwen, her stepmother Willemina van Leeuwen-Coppoolse, eight brothers and sisters: Pauline, Nell, Cor, Jo, Sjaan, Rie, Arie and Annie. 

Willy attended Covenant Christian Reformed Church in Woodstock. 

Friends and relatives will be received for a Celebration of Life at Covenant Christian Reformed Church, 410 Lansdowne Ave., Woodstock, on Thursday, June 25, 2026, at 11 am, with visitation just prior to the service. Private interment at Oxford Memorial Park Cemetery. 

In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Canadian Diabetes Association or World Renew would be appreciated and may be arranged through Brock & Visser Funeral Home, Woodstock. Online condolences at Brock & Visser Funeral Home.
