(William) Roy Corbett
1932 – 2026
In his final days, Roy was surrounded by his dear family as he passed away peacefully on January 21, 2026, at the age of 93.
We are here not to mourn a loss, but to celebrate a man who lived life with a full heart and a warm laugh. Roy was born in Bellwood, Ontario, and raised on a chicken farm by his parents, Mary Elizabeth and John Alexander, an experience that famously ensured he never ate eggs or chicken ever again. He was predeceased by his siblings Mervin, Donna, Rita, and Fred.
Roy met the love of his life, Betty, charming her with a ride on his motorcycle. They were married in 1954 and shared 71 wonderful years together.
Roy was the dedicated owner and operator of Boys Electric Ltd. in Woodstock. He was also one of the founding members of the Woodstock Ski Club, proudly passing on his love of skiing to his wife and children. Roy enjoyed boating, fishing, playing cards, spending time at their cottage in Long Point, and wintering in Florida.
He was a proud father of five children: Lynn Currah (Terry), Glenna Kunkel (Mike), Penny Demarest (Rob), Shelley Kaufman (Steve), and Gary Corbett (Suzin).A proud grandfather to Jennifer (Tyler), Brad (Natasha), Jason (Yaima), Taylor, Jeremy (Sarah), Tawnya, Stefanie, Scott (Michelle), Lindsay (Simon), and Mackenzie. And a loving great-grandfather to Avree, Kiyah, Koltyn, Karma, Ryker, Madelyn, Weston, Emery, Parker, and Elijah.
We aren’t here today to dwell on the loss of Roy, but to celebrate the incredible, vibrant life he lived and the mark he left on all of us. He found true joy in other people, which is why he had so many wonderful friends.
Rather than being too somber, let’s carry forward that sense of community. Let’s share the funny stories, the classic Roy moments, and remember the warmth he brought into every room. He wouldn’t want us to be mushy, he’d want us to grab a drink, tell a good story, and enjoy each other’s company, just as he always did.
A private family service will be taking place. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Sakura House or Woodstock Hospital.
