Charles McFadden Obituary

November 15, 1924 - May 10, 2020

The country is in mourning, a veteran sailor has passed away. Charles silently slipped away , in his 96th year, with his daughter at his side, at the Woodstock Hospital on Sunday May 10th, 2020. Sadly missed by his loving wife of 74 years Ruby C. (Wagner) McFadden. Charles is predeceased by his parents Arthur McFadden and Pearl (nee Babbitt) Bolton and stepfather Wilfred Bolton of Wallaceburg as well as 5 brothers and sisters. Dearest Dad of daughter Bonnie Lou Shaver (late Rex Shaver 1999) and of his son the late Senior Constable James Charles McFadden of Chatham Kent OPP (1999). Special "Boppa" to Julie McLean (John), Patti Shaver, and Jeff Shaver (Sandy).  Great "Boppa" to James, Jackson, Maggie and Harrison McLean and Jocelyn Ruby Shaver. Also "Boppa" to Ryan McFadden and Sean McFadden.  Chuck and Ruby raised their children Bonnie and Jim in Wallaceburg and then moved to Ancaster in 1964.  Later on they moved to Grand Bend and London, and finally settled in Woodstock where they have been at Oxford Gardens Retirement Home for the last 12 years.  Ruby and Chuck enjoyed many years seeking the sun in Florida for the winter. Chuck was a very proud Navy veteran serving from 1943-1945 aboard the HMCS Giffard, a Corvette escorting the convoys across the North Atlantic from Halifax and St. John's NFLD to Ireland and Scotland and back.  For many years he was involved and marched with the Burl/Oak Navy Club and the Woodstock Navy Club.  Chuck and Ruby travelled to many Navy reunions with shipmates across Canada and Australia.  A family gathering will take place at graveside at the Riverview Cemetery in Wallaceburg at a later date.  If desired, memorial contributions to the local S.P.C.A. or the Toronto Wildlife Centre would be appreciated, and may be arranged through the Brock and Visser Funeral Home 845 Devonshire Ave., Woodstock (519-539-0004).  Expressions of love and sympathy may be placed and viewed online at www.brockandvisser.com
