David Wright Obituary

David Richards Wright

1936 - 2023

WRIGHT, David Richards, resident of Woodstock Ontario and formerly of Longlac Ontario passed away peacefully on Wednesday May 17, 2023 surrounded by friends and family at Sakura House Hospice in Woodstock Ontario.

Born on July 3, 1936 in Port Arthur Ontario David had an eventful life with his formative years spent growing up in small logging communities in Minnesota, Ontario and Wisconsin before spending his teen years and graduating High School in Kapuskasing Ontario. David then went on to study Civil Engineering at the Royal Military College in Kingston Ontario prior to completing a B.Sc. degree in Forestry from the University of Toronto in 1961. Following graduation David moved to the small northern Ontario community of Longlac where he was employed by Kimberly Clark of Canada for 32 years in logging operations and human resource roles.

It was in Longlac, during the summer of 1962, that David met the love of his life Joan on a blind date arranged by her brother Leon and the couple married on October 12, 1963 in LaTuque, Quebec. David and Joan made their life in Longlac, raising a family of 3 boys, and being active members of the community with David volunteering with the Geraldton District Hospital Board and as an active member of the Lion’s Club and the Otter Slide Ski Club. David was an avid outdoorsman enjoying a wide variety of activities such as camping, canoeing, fishing,  family vacations, as well as golfing, curling, tennis, and biking.

After 37 years in Longlac, Joan and David relocated to Woodstock Ontario where they build their retirement home and spent their twilight years. In Woodstock David continued his active involvement in the community as a member of the Probus Club of Woodstock-Oxford, the Woodstock Curling Club and the choir of Christ Church Anglican Church in Huntingwood.

David will be sadly missed by his sons Michael (Denise) and Charles; brother Donald; sister Susan Divall (Ron); sister-in-law Eleanor LeGallais; brother-in-law Gerry Pond (Anne); grandchildren Brittney, Ryan, Jordana, Jade, Brenden, Karli, Max, Luke; and his great-granddaughter Ava.
