Don Hanna

With a great sense of loss and a bit of disbelief, we share the news of the passing of our beloved father and our friend Donald George Hanna, in his 93rd year, at the Maples Homes for Seniors in Tavistock on Wed May 24th.  Don will now be reunited with the amazing women who knew and loved him best, his wife of 64 years Diane (2020) his daughter Kristy (2015) and his mom Jane Cross (West).

Left to grieve and carry on running are his boys Steven (Sue), Michael (Lorraine) and Darrin (Susan) and his grandchildren Kaitlin, Hannah, Robert, Jessica (Michael), Joshua, Owen (Nicole), Laura (Sebastian), Chelan, Brooke, Matthew and John and 8 great-grandchildren.

Don was truly one of a kind, with a chivalrous nature and boundless energy.  He was always ready and available to lend a hand, hold a door, and shovel a drive (or a city block),  A kind hearted man, Don always made time to visit his family and friends wherever that may be and  he always had time for a coffee if anyone offered.  A lifelong love of vehicles and driving led him to his career as a mechanic for nearly 4 decades at Overland Express and his later work delivering buses. Dad could drive it on 3 wheels if he had to. Don’s favourite pastimes were camping with the Oxford Rovers, telling one of his stories and cycling. He would ride his bike everywhere, including to work, year round.  To all who knew him best we offer a final “Good show eh!”

The Hanna family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you for the kindness and dedication of the entire staff at the Maples Homes for Seniors, Tavistock. They quickly learned who Don was, helping to make the transition to long term care as positive and welcoming as possible for all of us.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday May 30, 2023  from 12 noon- 2 pm,  followed by a Funeral Service at 2 pm at Brock and Visser Funeral Home (845 Devonshire Rd.)
