It is with gratitude for a life well lived that we announce the death of our mom, Nana, Great Nana, aunt of many nieces and nephews in Holland and Canada, and treasured friend of many.

Fryke Velstra Oostenbrug died June 21, 2022, at the age of 97 at Woodingford Lodge Woodstock Ontario, her final painting is complete. Her art and poetry sustained her throughout her life as did her love for cats and dogs.

She and her husband Hennie (1986) came to Canada from Friesland, Holland as a newly married couple in 1948. Their first home was in Nova Scotia where they became fully submersed in life as Canadians. In 1951 they moved to Ontario.

She is survived by her children, Hendrika (Lorne) Matheson, Joan (Bob 2014) Houston, and Eric (Wendy Porter) Oostenbrug who will remember her as a great mother.  Also treasured as a great role model by her grandchildren, Maxine (Mike) Greenland, Brenda (Greg) Swrjeski, Chris (Joe) Matheson Wilson, and Alex (Jillian Carter) Oostenbrug, Sarah (Brent Roth) Oostenbrug. Her Great-grandchildren always brought her joy as great Nana, Nicole Greenland, Bryn and Morgan Swrjeski, and Kenna Wilson. Also remembered by Joan Houston’s stepfamily for whom nana had a special place in her heart.

Special thanks to all the kind, caring, and professional staff at Woodingford Lodge Woodstock. She called it home with pride.

Visitation will be held at Westminster United Church Thamesford (115 George St, Thamesford, ON N0M 2M0) on July 30, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, with service to immediately follow.
