John Albert Young

YOUNG, John Albert - passed away peacefully at Caressant Care Long Term Care in Woodstock, ON on Friday, February 19, 2021 in his 94th year.  John will be lovingly remembered by his many nieces and nephews and cherished friends. John was predeceased by his beloved wife Patricia (Pat), brothers-in-law Peter (Dorothy) Poole, Phil (Jaquie) Poole, Richard (Eleanor) Poole, Bill (Barbara) Smith and sister-in-law Betty (John) Poole. John was also survived by sister-in-law Cathy Poole. In 1945 he began his accounting career with Wilton C. Eddis and Sons and earned his Chartered Accountant designation in 1950. In 1956, John joined York Knitting Mills, which later became Harvey Woods, as comptroller. John retired from Harvey Woods as a Director and V.P. of Administration. John was active in the community. He served as Chair of the Fundraising Committee of the Woodstock District Community Complex. He served on the Board of Central United Church for many years and as Treasurer for twenty-five years. John also acted as Treasurer for the Victorian Order of Nurses for over five years. John was awarded the Commemorative Medal for the 125th Anniversary of the Confederation of Canada for his contribution to the community, the country and fellow Canadians. John had a great passion for bridge and was a Silver Life Master of the American Contract Bridge League, as well as a director and accredited better bridge teacher. The family wishes to send a special thank you to the staff at the Caressant Care Long Term Care and Dr. Jeffrey Nichols for their care and compassion.
