John Breen Obituary

John William Carl Breen

January 11, 1945 to September 11, 2022

John William CARL Breen passed away peacefully in Alliston ON following an aggressive illness, associated with a brain tumour and stroke. Predeceased by his infant son, Scott Breen.

Carl had been previously married to Pat (Cole) and Janet Ionson and very proud father to 3 daughters: Laura (Todd Berenz of Tillsonburg), Nicole (John Dillon of Woodstock) and Michelle Breen Whitney (Trevor) of Kitchener, who has just completed her CPA certificate, of which Dad was so very proud.

He was a very happy Grand dad to Lachlin and Callum Dillon.

Carl was born in Halifax NS at Grace Maternity Hospital January 11, 1945 and adopted by John  and Thomisina Breen of Yarmouth NS, where he spent his formative years, as his father was the custodian of the Post Office (Federal). He would grow up playing with lifelong best friends, Gary Nickerson (Mississauga) and Keith Bridgeo (Yarmouth). The ultimate fan of hockey (Montreal Canadians) and baseball (Toronto Blue Jays), Carl preferred watching games on the big TV home screen to catch all the action, especially the replays.

Like so many Maritimers, Carl came to ON for employment, starting in Oshawa as an electrical apprentice, then selling cookware door to door, and managing Metropolitan stores starting  in Ottawa, and meeting the Morin family of Campbell’s Bay QC. He was taken in as another family member and would go on to create many fond memories with them. Carl would go on to manage  Shoprite stores in southern and central ON. He was then introduced to the insurance industry through Northern and then London Life companies, and would create a large successful book of business, which he later sold to Dave Meckie of Burford ON. Not ready to retire Carl took driver training through Schnieder Truck Lines and joined Prouse Transport Ltd. doing US runs.

It was during this time that he would meet his soul partner Nancy Vallance Mann, formerly of Maxville ON. Over 12 years they would travel the world and back roads, enjoying their homes, ice cream and most especially each other’s company.

Visitation and celebration will be held Wednesday, September 28th from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at Drury Funeral Centre, Alliston and on Friday September 30th, 2:30-4:30 and 7-9 pm at Brock and Visser Funeral Home Woodstock, ON.

Donations in Carl’s memory are deeply appreciated to the Canadian Tire Jumpstart program (Everybody Plays), Blue Jays Kid’s Camp and the Carl Breen SMH (Stevenson Memorial Hospital) Special Projects Memorial Fund.

Apparently only the best are chosen for the ultimate baseball team, above.

 Safe travels, love you, bye,bye.
