Verna Chesney Obituary

Chesney, Verna Christine (née Gollan) – Passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on July 2nd, 2021 at the age of 78. Beloved wife of Gordon Chesney for 51 years. Loving mother of Melissa (Gerard) Groot, Angela (Brad) Paulen and Lee Chesney. Adored and cherished granny of Zach, Alicia, Carson and Jacob. Verna was born and raised in Seafoam, Nova Scotia. She was the daughter of the late John and Abbie (née Sutherland) Gollan. She was a devoted Registered Nurse at the Woodstock General Hospital for most of her career. She was a faithful and long-time member of Dundas St. United Church and helped teach the Sunday school children there for many years. She was a volunteer with the Canadian Cancer Society for over 30 years. She enjoyed the simple things in life - gardening, visiting with and helping out friends and family, going to the stock car races and old car shows with Gord in the summer, evening drives, home cooked meals and making sure no one went hungry. She loved all the many family dogs over the years and will be sadly missed by Buddy. Verna was a devoted and proud grandmother. Her grandchildren will always remember the positive outlook she had on life, her kindness, and her humble nature. Verna is survived by her sisters Jeannie Langille of Seafoam, Nova Scotia and Mary (Glenn) McGinnis of Pheonix, Arizona as well as sisters-in-law Shirley Gollan of Seafoam, Nova Scotia; Joyce (Garnet) Collings of Paris, Ontario; Gail (Gary) Farrington and Marion (Harvey) Silverthorn all of Woodstock, Ontario. Besides her parents, Verna was predeceased by her father-in-law and mother-in-law Leslie and Nancy (Chester) Chesney as well as her brothers Manceal and Rollie Gollan, sisters Edna (Hap) Day and Audrey (Jack) MacLeod, brother -in-law Willis Langille and sister-in-law Blanche (Lloyd) Swartz. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews as well as great-nieces and nephews that held a special place in her heart. A private family celebration of life will take place at Dundas St. United Church followed by a burial at the Innerkip Cemetery. In Verna’s memory, memorial donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or Dundas Street United Church would be appreciated and may be arranged through the Brock and Visser Funeral Home (519-539-0004).
